Holiday Florals: Amaryllis Instead of Poinsettia

The holidays are upon us and for years people have gravitated towards Poinsettias for their holiday floral gifts rather than Amaryllis.

Here is why we recommend getting an Amaryllis instead of Poinsettia, either for yourself or for your favorite party host, this holiday season.

• You can keep your Amaryllis around for more than one season. While Poinsettias can occasionally be regrown post-holidays, they are much harder to replant and take care of before blooming season. • Amaryllis have a more prominent floral bloom. The red “bloom” of the Poinsettia is usually thought of as a flower but the Poinsettia is actually a variety of shrub, so the red “flowers” are bracts and the floral bloom is the small yellow cluster centered in the bracts.
